GRATITUDES + BREAKTHROUGHS // APRIL 19, 2016

Gratitudes
This week was full of material for GratiTuesday, so let me start with 3 hour long phone calls with a distant friend. Nothing fills my heart with more joy than hearing from a friend that lives hundreds if not thousands of miles away. With all of the available technology to stay in touch – email, instagram, text, snap chat, facebook, etc – nothing really beats hearing the voice of your old pal.
My second younger sister is getting married this summer and this past weekend we honored her soon-to-be marriage with a Kate Spade themed bridal shower. It was so cheerful with color pops of pink and teal, black and white stripes with glitter, bright floral arrangements and a big gold balloon banner that said “cheers!” Anyone that has been lucky enough to meet Katlyn knows her energy, laugher and all out weirdness is contagious. There is no way you can be around her and not get a little silly. To simply put it her day was filled with mimosas, friends, family and a hell of a lot of support and love.
On Thursday, my Grandpa Ron turned 80! He made it very clear that he didn’t want a large, over the top celebration. My Grandma Jean treated him to lunch at his favorite restaurant and he thought that was it besides the cards and phone calls that poured in all day. We, as a family, tried to listen but we couldn’t help but throw a surprise shindig at a local buffalo wing joint. The funny part is with such a large family, no gathering is really considered small or low key. About 20 of us showed up with smiles, cupcakes and balloons to surprise him. He was surprised, and while he may have said a few words under his breath I do think he appreciated all of the attention for such a milestone birthday.
My nail polish changed again this week with the welcome of the warmer weather. If you’re looking for a bright and certainly intense color check out OPI’s Live. Love. Carnival. It’s a little brighter than I expected but I have to say it’s grown on me. I’d say it’s perfect for a day at the beach or a winery date.
Breakthroughs
Yesterday was the end of tax season, and with that I had to send a big fat payment to the Federal and State government. Financial stability is something we all strive for and stress out about. The lesson I’ve had to learn over and over again is that financial stability is all relative and that I’ll survive. I know I’m not the only small business owner who was shocked to see the amount they owed in taxes, especially their first year filing. I felt panicked, but after sleeping on it (hoping to alleviate some of the sting) I realized that this is a sign of success. I was able to run a business successfully for a whole year. I had saved adequately to make that tax payment. No one likes to see their savings account dwindle, especially for taxes but letting it go is apart of doing business. Here’s to another year!
As always, thanks for reading. xoxo.
