GRATITUDES + BREAKTHROUGHS // MAY 31, 2016

Gratitudes
I kicked off my Memorial Day weekend with Mandy + Sean and their elegant and romantic blush and gold wedding. They exchanged vows on Friday at Saint John’s Catholic Church in Warrenton. I don’t usually do a lot of church ceremonies but this one was definitely notable. The church itself is stunning with exposed wood, large stained glass windows and rows of pews with a great view of the alter. Their priest delivered a beautiful and heartfelt service that included past stories of the two of them individually as well as a couple and his hopes for their future. We were also able to spend some time on the Spanish steps outside of Airlie, it’s such a beautiful and picturesque place for pictures – especially the one above! The reception was filled with meaningful toasts, belly laughs, succulents, a photo booth and dancing! These two headed out right after the sparkler exit to BWI to catch a flight to their honeymoon in Hawaii!
More exciting news! Borrowed & Blue featured Jenna + Sean’s classic Richmond wedding from back in April! Click over and relive their purple and teal wedding with rustic accents at Hanover Tavern. It’s always so fulfilling to see your work accepted, especially for publication! It’s definitely a gratitude I have for this week and one I hope to have many more times this year!
This week I think is the first week I haven’t purchased a new polish for my nails, specifically for this blog. It’s safe to say I have a problem or a really, really healthy hobby. In honor of all of the sunshine and heat we are getting Need Sunglasses was an obviously choice. It’s bright and creamy and reminds me of school bus yellow! It’s a great neutral that will provide that added pizazz to your week and outfits.
Breakthroughs
Comfort and peace were the theme of this weeks breakthrough. Since moving out of my own apartment 2 years ago I’ve been in a state of limbo – between my parents house and staying with my boyfriend. I haven’t truly felt at peace or at home for sometime. Yes, there is a difference between the home you grew up in and the home you create for yourself. I lived on my own in an adorable little historic apartment. I bought each piece of furniture, decorated and redecorated, cleaned and let the laundry piled up as I liked it. It was my personal private space. One place that I have always felt like needed to be comfortable, calming and a reflection of me was the bedroom. There is no room more important in your home than your bedroom, it’s where you start and end each of your days. It’s where you go to unwind from a long day and prepare to conquer the next morning. So, in order to reclaim that peacefulness, I did the most responsible adult thing and ordered a brand new mattress, 1000 count sheets, 4 new pillows, a pillow top mattress cover and a himalayan salt lamp. Last night was the first time we were able to sleep on it and I’m pretty sure I slept the best I have in years. It’s so important to continue to nurture our bodies and that includes a soothing resting place. The more I get settled the more this bedroom will provide that, but for now I’ll enjoy the comfort of my bed and the pink glow from my new lamp.
As always, thanks for reading. xoxo.
