GRATITUDES + BREAKTHROUGHS // April 25, 2017

Gratitudes
Morgan + Nic are above in their engagement session that was early on Sunday morning. With fear of cancelling due to the nasty weather on Saturday and the forecast calling for more drops, we got so lucky. Even the gray clouds opened up and we got to see the monuments without a bit of fog and with a little sunshine. These two went to college at George Washington University so they know their way about the city and had so many fond memories here. I am excited to show you their engagement session in a few weeks!
I took a break this week to really soak up the time with Devin while he’s home. We’ve run so many errands for him to prep to go back that by the end of the week we were looking forward to wineries, dinner at the Salamander Resort + Spa, a day at the Middleburg Spring races and lifestyle session with my homegirl Brandilynn. I still feel tired from all we are trying to squeeze in, and in between these visits with friends and family we have been trying to spend time with the animals and unwind on the couch. It’s been a delicate balance between cramming in all of the fun things we miss doing together and just taking a nap together in the middle of the day.
So that session I mentioned above was a lifestyle session where Brandi came to visit us in our home. For over a year now I’ve been slowly building my indoor plant skills by adding new plants every few months to see what I won’t end up killing. I’m proud to say that I’ve kept most of my plans alive, those that I didn’t I didn’t fully follow their light needs – but hey I’m learning. In addition, as a photographer I’m rarely on the front end of a lens unless it’s for headshots or to rest light. I have never had images taken with a significant other so this was interesting. Brandi made us feel right at home – I get it, we were at home – but we still felt a little nervous. The session was more of an on going conversation and it helped ease the initial fear. I always push for my clients, friends and family members to get pictures taken, those memories are important at whatever stage of life you are celebrating, for me I really wanted images of the two of us that weren’t taken by a friend or with a ridiculous Snapchat filter. (The number of super creepy face-swap images we have is alarming.) Brandi has posted a few sneak peeks on her Facebook page and on Instagram so if you are curious to see just how model-like we are, head on over.
Kiss Me I’m Brazilian was the color of choice last week. I picked it this up last week and was debating between it and Pinking of You. I went with that I thought was a more subtle light pink. Although after I was out of the store with a coat of paint on my toes, I realized just how bright this color actually was. It’s a true pink, it really reminds me of Mattel’s blonde bombshell and her iconic pink. This would be an amazing color for mid summer, but I thought it was a little aggressive for our rainy April. Either way, it’s bright creaminess did bring a lot of cheer to my weekday outfits!
Breakthroughs
I feel a large breakthrough coming on, so as usual to keep this space authentic I’m going to keep it blank. Hopefully next week I’ll be back in action.
As always, thanks for reading. xoxo.
