GRATITUDES + BREAKTHROUGHS // NOVEMBER 1, 2016

Gratitudes
Thursday night I met my three sisters in Fairfax at Sisters Thai for a much needed #Norman4 night. With our schedules and varied locations across Northern Virginia it’s almost impossible to schedule sisters dinners. Somehow this time we were able to pull it off! If you haven’t been to Sisters Thai, you should. Besides their food being amazing their restaurant is set up like the most adorable single girl living room – meets best eclectic Craigslist finds. We shared appetizers and the highlights of our week and lots of laughter. I got really lucky with this group of gals as sisters.
Since this was my first weekend off all of fall I went hard. Friday night I grabbed drinks with friends at Quattro Goomba’s and then hit up our all time favorite Italian restaurant for pizza and meatballs. Saturday I dressed up for Halloween for the first time since college. Originally I had planned on being Ariel, The Little Mermaid and planned my outfit accordingly. Last minute though we accompanied our friends to the costume shop and there was a match for my boyfriends costume – or so we thought. I’ve never been part of a couples costume so I thought since I was already dressing up I should fully embrace his favorite holiday. He dressed as He-Man… The strongest man in the universe. I snagged She-Ra thinking she was his female counter part because they were marketed next to each other. Thrilled with ourselves we dressed up and took pictures to head to the party. On the way there I decided I needed to know more about my character so I did a little Wikipedia search, turns out She-Ra is He-Man’s twin sister. Couples costume fail. The whole night we couldn’t stop laughing at our mix-up.
Sunday I watched the sunrise with a cup of coffee over hunt country. I waited for our friends to wake up and we had the best brunch at Hunter’s Head Tavern in Upperville and visited our friend over at the Local Taste. From there we skipped over to Arterra Winery where we did a tasting and shared a bottle of their Riesling. On the way back home we randomly stopped at our favorite Mexican restaurant El Agave and housed their chips and queso. After that it was time to wrap up the long weekend and head home.
Yesterday was officially Halloween and after a day of editing and emails, I dressed up as Ariel. He-Man and I headed to an annual family friend Halloween Party where the adults could enjoy cocktails and appetizers and take shifts handing out candy on the porch. I have never handed out candy to the kids before and it was so much fun looking at all of their costumes and asking them questions. They all seemed so excited, especially for the candy! A neighbor puts on a haunted yard and it’s interactive with actors and activities, we got chased with a chainsaw and we got to see people line up to use the “electric chair.” By far the scariest thing in my opinion was a lone baby doll sitting in a recliner in the corner of the yard, it totally freaked me out. I also got a few compliments on my costume from a few Disney Princesses.
Breakthroughs
I’ve never really been an early riser, I’ve always really hated the mornings. I’m not sure if it’s being in my 30s but I’ve really grown fond of waking up and walking down the stairs to let the pups out, feed the cat and make a warm cup of coffee. I grab that coffee and sit in a chair in the living room by a window that I can watch the sun peek up over the horizon. I’m still not overly productive in those early hours but maybe that’ll be next.
As always, thanks for reading. xoxo.
