GRATITUDES + BREAKTHROUGHS // May 9, 2017
Gratitudes
This past week was busy with errands, emails and meetings with clients.
Wednesday was a day of packing, saying goodbye and relaxation. The boyfriend and I headed to Salamander Day Spa to soak up all of the relaxation vibes they had before finalizing his packing and dropping him at the airport on Thursday morning. I’ve been to Salamander for cocktail hour, for dinner reservations and even a wedding but I haven’t really taken advantage of the spa. We scheduled our appointment for a couples massage and imagined we’d be in and out. The receptionist mentioned that we could utilize any of the amenities within the spa which included a ridiculously hot sauna, a specialized shower room with pulsating jets and various temperatures, mineral pool and my personal favorite, stone lounge chairs heated to 95 degrees. As soon as we got our tour we decided to enjoy the hour before our massages separate. I jumped in the sauna to warm up and then spent the rest of my time on that heated lounge chair. Our massage room was adorable, it was connected by a stone fireplace with a soak tub and a terrace with a private hot tub. Our 50 minute massages included aroma therapy, I selected the spa’s unique blend. After our massages we ventured out to the swimming pool that is heated to 85 degrees, a large hot tub and fire pit. We sat snuggled in our robes after we took a dip in the hot tub by the firepit. After a while we made our way around the pool to a location with plush outdoor couches and snuggled there a little while longer. It was the perfect send off. Since he got home we’ve been running errands, ordering things, visiting friends and family and really neglecting our time together. I can’t wait for the next massage!
Sunday was a first for me. I was invited by my friend Adriana to check out an opera at the Kennedy Center. I’ve never been to the Kennedy Center and I’ve never seen a real professional opera. For my Italian class at GMU we had to attend a small production at Wolf Trap but this didn’t compare to the performance on Sunday. The Kennedy Center was huge, much larger than I imaged and much more glamorous. It was a Sunday so most people were dressed like they were going to brunch or church, there were a few women who wore gowns which were lovely. I have the itch to attend a show at night so I can dress up in a gown and feel all glammed out. I did enjoy Madame Butterfly but the people around us in the seats were gasping, clapping, laughing and really enjoying themselves. I was having a hard time reading the subtitles and watching the performers. I proudly was able to recognize some Italian words while they were singing, only to look immediately at the subtitles to make sure I was correct.
Instagram is an amazing business tool. I’ve connected with a lovely wedding planner who specializes in weddings in Italy! We are planning to meet in the next few weeks in Alexandria to plan a styled shoot while I’m in Italy! Talk about a dream come true! Social media really is impressive when it comes to connections!
Also for those of you that were following me on Instagram you would have seen my solid pick for the Kentucky Derby. Always Dreaming (my pick) cruised into first place, knocking out the crowd favorite McCracken.
I’ve revisited Gelato On My Mind this week and still love it. I did have to use three coats to make the color coverage consistent, but love the vibe. It’s a bright cream blue that almost looks matte without a top coat!
Breakthroughs
I do better with smaller challenges, especially fitness and health related. I’m sure other people out there feel overwhelmed with 30 day and 90 day challenges so I made my own. I’m doing 5 yoga classes a week, based on my schedule. I knew with wedding season here there was no way I would be able to succeed in completing a 30 classes in 30 days challenge. This week I started my 5 classes in 7 days. This feels more obtainable, and there is nothing better than checking those classes off on my planner and feeling accomplished. I’ll let you know how it went next week.
What challenges have you set for yourself?
As always, thanks for reading! xoxo.
